Pix Brook pupils quiz Bedfordshire MP

Pupils at Pix Brook Academy got the chance to quiz their local MP as part of a project aimed at improving the area.

As part of their Key Stage 2 Geography work, the students were asked to look at ways that they could improve their locality.

They started their campaigns looking at changes that are currently going on in the local area, such as the new Arlesey relief road.

They were then given the opportunity to campaign for what they felt would create an improvement; some chose more retail facilities and some chose wider footpaths.

At the end of the unit the students were asked to write a persuasive letter to Richard Fuller – MP for North East Bedfordshire, the constituency which Pix Brook sits in – in order to convince him of the validity of their proposal.

Mr Fuller came into the school last month to listen to ideas from the students and discuss the Government’s future plans for the area, with special emphasis placed on sustainable growth.

He also shared a House of Commons Order Paper and talked about how business is conducted in Parliament.

Steven Brooks, Head of Humanities at Pix Brook Academy, said: “The students greatly enjoyed speaking to a person in a position of power.

“Well done to all the socially responsible students involved, with special mention going to Seren Evans, Louis Dixon, Chloe Connolly and Connor Clarkson for their well-made points and in-depth discussion with Mr Fuller.”
