New Campton Principal ready to celebrate school's 150th anniversary

The new Principal of Campton Academy is looking forward to the future – but to begin with will be taking a step back in time.

Susanne Combe has returned to the school after Sarah Fraher stepped down from the Principal role at February half-term.

Ms Combe, who is BEST’s Director of Training and Professional Development, was interim Principal during the Covid pandemic and the school’s transition into our trust in November 2020.

She said: “I am delighted to be back at Campton. I know the fantastic staff and some of the pupils at the school already, and am looking forward to meeting parents and carers and working with them for the benefit of their children.”

The school is gearing up to celebrate a significant milestone – 150 years of educating the children of Campton and Chicksands.

A number of events and activities are planned to mark the occasion, including the creation of a tapestry by pupils, classroom activities and a whole school photograph.

There will also be a special open morning on Saturday 8th March – the actual anniversary date of a school board being set up in the parish in 1875.

All are welcome to visit the school between 10am and noon.

Ms Combe said: “I am really looking forward to celebrating the 150th anniversary of the school throughout this term.

“If you have any connection with our school or the local community, past or present, I’d be delighted if you could join us for our special morning.”

Sarah Fraher was given a farewell in assembly on her last day as Campton Academy Principal

* On the last day before the February half-term break staff, children and Chair of Governors Alan Stupple said thank you and good luck to Mrs Fraher as she stepped down as Principal.

Mrs Fraher has taken up a new role delivering SEND provision for the local authority, but will remain at Campton for one day a week as the school’s SENCo.
