Etonbury Academy tops the Government’s performance tables for second year
The extended secondary school in Arlesey has topped the Progress 8 measure in the Government’s performance tables for Central Bedfordshire in both 2023 and 2024.
Progress 8, the key performance measure introduced by the Department for Education, tracks student progress from the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6) to the end of Key Stage 4 (Year 11).
Principal Joanne Young, pictured with pupils, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to once again have the best Progress 8 ranking in Central Bedfordshire. This measure shows we are adding value at Etonbury and our students are exceeding their potential.
“This success is due to the professionalism, dedication and sheer hard work of our whole school community – staff, students and families.
“Everyone has contributed and played a role in our success and I am an incredibly proud Principal.”
Mrs Young pointed to the wide curriculum offer as one of the reasons for Etonbury’s success.
Students can choose between 20 subjects for their GCSE options – and also now continue their studies at the school’s new Sixth Form, with a pathway into A Level for every GCSE on offer.
She said: “Students can essentially tailor their own curriculum to their passions. This increases their commitment and enthusiasm for their subjects, which in turn leads to being more engaged learners and getting better results.
“Our vision at Etonbury is ‘develop the learner, develop the person’. With our curriculum offer alongside quality teaching and extensive extracurricular opportunities, we really do give our young people a full, rounded experience.”
BEST Chief Executive Officer Dr Alan Lee said: “Well done to everyone at Etonbury Academy. It is really wonderful to see the focus, determination and hard work of this inspirational community being celebrated.”
